If you read my post yesterday on my loss of smell you'll probably wonder what I was doing at Jo Malone! I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of their new Poppy & Barley collection and, as a Jo Malone newbie, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about!

Hands up, I totally forgot to check if Jo Malone was a cruelty-free brand before I went. They're not, they're an Estée Lauder company, which tests on animals where required to by law, but they are working with the Humane Society International to “bring an end to cosmetic testing on animals by 2023” with the #BeCrueltyFree campaign.

I know of Jo Malone. I know it's a high-end brand that people love. I know that it's expensive and people love finding dupes for their candles and fragrances.

I was excited to be invited and had totally forgotten until I walked in that I have next to no sense of smell so this may prove challenging!

As expected the store is beautifully minimal and I couldn't help but straighten up any wayward bottles like the guy from "Sleeping With The Enemy".

I got a fantastic hand massage using the Poppy & Barley Body & Hand Wash, Wood Sage & Sea Salt Body Crème and Poppy and Barley Cologne and of course my hands felt amazing afterwards.

It was interesting to find out that all the Jo Malone scents are designed to work together, allowing you to layer them and create a more personalised perfume, which a lot of people do for their wedding thanks to an in-store service.

I spent a long time going round the store trying out the perfumes and of those I could smell my favourites were Wood Sage & Sea Salt (which won the Best Cult Fragrance award at the Glamour Beauty Power List 2019 so I must have good taste), Oud & Bergamot and Black Cedarwood & Juniper. Seems I may be able to smell resinous smells after all!

What's your favourite Jo Malone scent?

  2. Oh no! It is a shame they test on animals. I've heard of Jo Malone and much prefer the dupes. Much much cheaper. It sounds like you had a lovely time x
