I'm Not Well :(

I don't do ill very well.

I feel terribly sorry for myself and if you're anywhere near I'll make you feel sorry for me too...or at least sorry that you were within earshot!

I don't like to keep you in the dark, so I thought I'd better let you know that I have dragged my favourite blanket & pillow through to the living room in a bid to feel better asap. A lot of sleep, painkillers and cups of tea seems to help a bit too!

I'll save the "Your Opinion On..." post til next Wednesday, but feel free to continue to contribute until then.

Stay healthy til I'm back! :)

♥ This Week's Loves ♥

1. This week started brilliantly with the arrival of my first ever niece, Charlotte! She's so cute and tiny and cuddly!

2. For some reason I wasn't sure I'd like Wreck-It Ralph that much, but it was brilliant! I was dying for a pick 'n' mix after seeing all those yummy sweeties though!

3. My wonderful Miffy lamp arrived...

4. ...and so did George Sanderson! He really suits some specs! :D

5. It was my birthday on Saturday and I got some great gifts, including this Ryan Gosling colouring-in book!

6. I was treated to lunch at Poldino's, an Italian restaurant I'd never been to before and had some delicious pesto linguine and this yummy cheesecake!

7. After a quick change, the girls got together and we headed to the Carmelite Hotel for Intoxicating Afternoon Tea, which consists of sandwiches, scones, cakes and teapots of cocktails! It was a really great way to start the evening and gave us all a chance to chat before heading out for more drinks.

8. The following day I went 10-pin bowling which I haven't done in ages and got beat :( I was amazed at how rubbish I was because I used to be pretty good!

9. I've been in dire need of a massage for a long time and had real problems with my back recently, so when I got a voucher for a full body aromatherapy massage at Thai House, which my friend recommended to me, I booked myself in asap. And it was brilliant, I instantly felt better and it seems to have fixed me! Hurrah!

Your Opinion On...Valentine's Day

Last week I asked all my blog readers, Twitter and Facebook friends and family to give me their opinion on Valentine's Day.

Lots of you shared pictures of your gifts and cards, meals out and hotel stays. There were also quite a few grumbles about being single, not receiving anything or what a rubbish idea it is.  Unfortunately, hardly anyone shared their thoughts directly with me so I could add it to my post!

Your Opinions

"It's a scam. Nothing good ever comes of it. I hate valentines day. Apart from this year as I spent it in the bar with friends." @todd_philips

"Valentines as a Hallmark holiday is overrated and I agree that you should express your love for people throughout the year, not just on the one day that you’re ‘told’ to. But at the same time what’s wrong with having a day dedicated to telling the people you care about how much they mean to you?" @leanneeef

My Opinion

I quite like Valentine's Day! I don't always get something but that's when I treat myself (like in my My Sweet Valentine post!) and I don't think there's any harm in having a day to celebrate the one you love/like/fancy like mad!

It makes me sad that a lot of people don't do anything at all. I was chatting to colleagues at work and a couple of them said that they used to, but don't bother anymore, and they've been married to their partners for a long time.

What does annoy me is when people use the excuse that Valentine's Day is too commercial and their refusal to take part is some sort of protest. The most romantic moments of my life haven't been receiving a big bouquet or being whisked away for the weekend. Gifts are nice, don't get me wrong, I'm not going to throw it back in anyone's face, but if a boyfriend was to make me a card or take me somewhere with a nice view to eat chips in the car, I melt! I definitely think it's the thought that counts!

Next week: Your Opinion On...Internet Dating

Travelling back from Preston I bought a couple of magazines and thought that this statistic was interesting: 1 in 5 new relationships begin on an online dating site.

So this week I'm asking: Would you? Have you? Do you have a wonderful success story or was it an epic fail? Do you still feel there's a stigma attached and should there be?

And here's how:

Next Wednesday I'll post your opinions (along with your name/Twitter name/Facebook page etc unless you want it kept anonymous, in which case please let me know!) and let you know what I think too! I can't wait to hear from you!

My Mini-Adventure To Preston

I haven't been on a mini-adventure for a while, so when my Blythe doll P was ready to collect from her customiser, I thought it'd be a great chance to visit friends and collect her at the same time!

My trip didn't start well. I nearly missed both my trains, the first because I was really tired after seeing Plan B the night before and it was an early start, the second because I had to go shopping for the things I'd forgotten to pack! But I arrived, in one piece, and with everything I needed!

My immediate thought when I got off the train was what a lovely day it was, and what a nice looking place, followed by where do I go from here! Thank goodness for GPS on phones!

I stayed at the Legacy International which worked out cheaper than Travelodge and other similar hotels, plus it got good ratings and looked nice and it was handy for the train and town centre.  I call it a town centre, although it's actually a city, because it has a really nice small town feel.

I quickly dumped my things in my room after a quick look around and went to meet Addie. We know each other through Twitter and our shared love of Blythe dolls. It's always great to meet Twitter people in the flesh and we had a great chat on the way to meet our other friend Cat. I met her briefly at BlytheCon last year after seeing her beautiful red haired girl and I knew she was the one to customise P!

We went to the Mystery Tea House on Cannon Street which just has the most amazing array of teas! It also does food and has some good vegetarian/vegan choices. I went for a nice vegan stew (I can't remember the proper name) and some cherry and rum tea. It's got a really good relaxed atmosphere and we spent hours chatting away.

I cold barely contain my excitement when Cat handed me over the package containing my doll, and when I opened the box I was in awe, she's perfect! She'd transformed from factory doll P into beautiful Paloma! Here's a before and after:

I couldn't stop touching her hair!

At tea-time we all went our separate ways. Cat is getting married soon so she was hen night bound, but Addie and I were hitting the town!

I had been looking forward to using my bath ballistic from Lush so I had a nice long soak in the bath and watched an episode of Firefly on my carefully balanced iPad! Then it was glad-rags on and off I went!

I met up with Addie and we headed to Friargate, which is one of the main centre streets and has lots of pubs on it! We hit Adelphi, O'Neills and Roper Hall, all three were good, regular pubs and were comfortably busy, meaning we got a seat in them all but there were plenty of other people. The drinks were going down well and it was a nice relaxed evening.

Our final stop was a rock pub called Dog and Partridge (Addie's local) and it had a really good atmosphere too with a good mix of people and good tunes. We would've stayed longer but it was time to go home :(

Another great thing about the Legacy hotel is that breakfast is served til 11am on a Sunday and check-out wasn't until noon, so I had a nice relaxing morning including stuffing myself with lots of fuel for the day!

After taking lots more photos of Paloma I headed to Preston's high street, Fishergate, for a look at the shops. They have a nice big YMCA charity shop, with lots of furniture, clothes, books and music, but they also had fancy dress costumes too, which was a bit different!

In St George's Shopping Centre I couldn't resist Krispy Kreme and bought some for the journey home. The best one was the lemon meringue one, so yummy! The hard bit was travelling about 250 miles on train, bus and foot with them all intact! Well, all apart from the strawberry glazed one which had to be eaten!

There's also a shop in there that stocks The Stan Lee Collection of Marvel prints. They're pricey but awesome!

My last stop was Fishergate Shopping Centre, which is just round the corner from the train station.  I treated myself to some awesome new shoes in the sale at Debenhams, I can't believe the Henry Holland ones on the right only cost £13.50! Bargain!

Sad to be leaving so soon, I dragged my suitcase, shopping bags and my sore feet to the station to catch my train home. At least I had nice comfy new shoes to change into!

Have you been to Preston? Is there anything awesome I missed out on?

♥ This Week's Loves ♥

1. How cool is this stamp set from Paperchase? (I can't find it online but I bought it in-store)

2. My Sunday night viewing is Ripper Street so I Sky+ Mr Selfridge. I've just started watching it this week and love it! It's so decadent and glamorous and Jeremy Piven is delish!

3. I couldn't resist this Mickey Mouse with his cute little red nose! Get yours at The Disney Store and 25% goes to Comic Relief.

4. I've got UK BlytheCon tickets! They were released on 14th February, so if you want to go head over to the website. I've booked for the day and the after-party, so hopefully I'll see some of you there!

5. I tried the new Linda McCartney Fish Free Scampi and it's really tasty. I love how diverse vegetarian food is now, compared to when I stopped eating meat over 20 years ago!

6. I can't describe how awesome the Plan B concert was! I'm a big fan so my sister got me ticket for Christmas. Labrinth was supporting, Chase & Status were there and the beatboxing from Faith SFX was the best I've ever heard! And because it was the final date of the tour we got some extra tunes and a bit of Firestarter by The Prodigy! Definitely one of my top three concerts!

7. The morning after the gig I headed down to Preston for the weekend. It's a really nice place and deserves a Mini-Adventure post, which I'll do later in the week!

8. One of the main reasons for my trip was to collect my first ever custom Blythe doll, Paloma! When I gave my ideas to KittyCat Customs I'd never have imagined how perfect she'd be!

9. I managed to travel about 250 miles on train, bus and foot with a box Krispy Kreme yesterday, and it was worth it! The lemon meringue one was delicious!

My Sweet Valentine ♥

I hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day yesterday!

Although I'm currently single, I don't see why I should have to miss out on Valentine's Day. I like to make a point of treating myself, I'm saving money by not buying something for a significant other, so why the hell not!

I'm always adding things I want to my boards in Pinterest and my ☆ Flights Of Fancy ☆ posts so I thought I'd treat myself to some of them!

My Valentine's gifts to me:

Twitch  The Raccoon by Roadkill Toys via Fab

Monkey Kit by Wu & Wu via Fab

George Sanderson via The Disney Store

Wonder Linen Spray via The Disney Store

Aren't I good to me?! Have you treated yourself this Valentine's Day?
